Artist comment: "I have been captivated by Matisyahu's music since I first saw him in 2005, and I knew I wanted to paint him; however it took many years of photographing his performances to finally get the photograph that I would use as reference for this drawing, which is a study for a future painting. I took the photo at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland in 2009, and I knew when I saw it that this was the photo I had been looking for. I finished the drawing the day of Matisyahu's 2010 concert at the Crystal, and when I showed it to him, he liked it so much that he used the artwork for the cover of the long-awaited re-issue of his "Shake off the Dust...Arise" CD.
