Artist comment: "This pencil drawing of Thara Memory and Esperanza Spalding was created for a fundraiser for Thara's American Music Program in Portland, Oregon. I had taken several photos when Esperanza was in Portland for the PDX Jazz Festival in February 2011. They were sitting next to each other at a Black History Month program at City Hall, and I took the opportunity to snap a few photos of student and mentor together... not knowing at the time that it would be a perfect photo to work from for the artwork for the upcoming fundraiser.
