COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT
FEES AND PROCEDURE
Creating an oil portrait begins with a personal visit with the client, giving the artist an opportunity to get acquainted with the subject and to discuss the desired elements of the painting such as the size, pose, setting, and other details.
Next, one or more photo sessions will be scheduled and the photographs will then be shared with the client. Once the photograph that best captures the personality of the subject is decided on, a pencil drawing and color sketch will be submitted to assure proper layout, likeness, and color accuracy.
After the sketches are approved, Diane will then return to her studio to proceed with the final painting, which will take a minimum of six weeks to finish.
Portrait fees start at $2000 for a head and shoulders oil portrait. Black and white pencil portraits are also available, and start at $300. There is a charge of 50% of the initial fee for each additional subject in oil, 75% for pencil. Payment of one-half of the total amount is due at the signing of the contract.
