Artist comment: This drawing of Roy Haynes was inspired by his PDX Jazz Festival Jazz Conversation in 2012. He was 86 at the time… drummer Alan Jones asked him about all things jazz, and he had a lot of stories to tell. After the interview, I commented on how much I liked his boots. He was dressed impeccably, and seemed pleased that someone took notice. I found out later that, besides being an NEA Jazz Master, he had also been named one of Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in America.
